Assam’s 10-Year-Old Shikhi Kakati Honoured with Desh Ratna Award 2025 for Excellence in Satriya Dance and Acting
New Delhi, April 2025 — In a proud moment for Assam and the nation, 10-year-old Shikhi Kakati from Morigaon, Assam, has been conferred the prestigious Desh Ratna Award 2025 in New Delhi. She received the honor for her exceptional contributions to Satriya dance and acting, making her one of the youngest awardees at the national level.
Shikhi, a Class V student at Mahendra Kandali Academy, Morigaon, has already earned acclaim for her extraordinary discipline, talent, and passion for the arts. She is the daughter of acclaimed writers and poets Mantu Kumar Nath and Junmoni Kakati, and her artistic inclinations clearly reflect her rich cultural heritage.
Training Ground for a Prodigy
Shikhi has been undergoing intensive training in Satriya dance and acting at Sankari Sangeet Vidyalaya, Morigaon — a reputed institution affiliated with Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. She is being mentored by renowned instructors Prasanna Kumar Medhi, Tapas Bardoloi, and Utpala Hokai.
In addition to her classical roots, Shikhi is also making strides in other art forms:
Martial Arts (Karate): She trains at the Morigaon District Karate Association under the guidance of Manash Nath, Basanta Hira, and Dipak Das.
Modern Drama: Under the mentorship of Ajoy Kumar Deka, Director of Sanchipat, Morigaon, she is learning the craft of modern theatrical performance.
Modern Dance: She also hones her skills in contemporary dance at Swargam Cultural Academy, guided by Uday Bhaskar Nath.
